DIY Easter Bunny Pencil Holders
Posted by Happy Active Kids on
The countdown to Easter has started in our house and we couldn’t be more excited! We’re all certainly looking forward to the Easter bunny paying us a visit and bringing us all some yummy Easter eggs!
The boys and I had a discussion around various animals depicted at Easter time, what these symbolised and their meaning. I also did a little bit of research myself (aka secret Googling!) and it turns out the Easter bunny is a folklore figure that originated in Germany and brought Easter eggs to children if they were good, a bit like Santa.
Recycled crafts are always great fun as it shows little ones first hand how everyday items can be repurposed. During the craft is a good time to explain the importance of recycling, how it happens and why we need to preserve our environment. I am a real hoarder of materials (knowing how much we love to craft with them!) so we were inspired to reuse and recycle some of our rapidly growing collection of tin cans and turn them into Easter bunnies. You could use a toilet roll instead however we decided on tin cans because they are sturdier. We also reused newspapers for the bunny’s body to give the body a different textural look.
These Easter bunny pencil holders are fun to make and a really quick craft to tackle. It involves mainly paper cutting and gluing which is a brilliant fine motor activity that children enjoy.
Have fun making these Easter Bunnies and don’t forget the whiskers like we did!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED FOR EACH EASTER BUNNY PENCIL HOLDER:

- Pom poms
- Paper scraps

- Cover tin can with newspaper and glue.
- Use glue to stick yarn onto the newspaper covered tin.
- For the tummy, cut an oval shape from paper scraps and colour it pink. Glue onto bottom end of tin can.
- Glue pom poms above the tummy for bunny’s nose and cheeks.
- Glue googly eyes above the nose and cheeks.
- To make ears, cut two ear shapes out of newspaper and colour the centre pink.
- Glue ears onto the inside of tin can so that they stick out.
